Some Changes

I moved all the photos I wish to share over to the Picasa Web Albums where I get 20 gigs for $5 a year. Compared to the increasingly tardy Flickr, which comes in at around $25 a year, and it's a pretty simple decision. I like the Picasa interface much better and I'll never have 20 gigs of photos online. Ever.

I'm going to redesign this sometime soon. That's all.

Up again, down again. How many years has this gone on?

Well, it's down again. But not. I nixed hosting my own forum in favor of getting a Google Group together. Should be easy enough to use and if you were a member of the BBS prior to today, I emailed you the details. It's open for anyone. I don't think you need a Gmail account, but don't hold me to that.

Hi There

I'm using Google Reader again. At very least until NetNewsWire, which now syncs to Google Reader, can figure out how to sync clippings/smart folders/shared items back and forth.

Rather than add another feed on here to my GReader Shared Items, I'll export them out to the Del.icio.us feed. It's all very confusing, but I've spread myself too thin on the services. Perhaps one day I'll find one home for everything.

Went to the desert again. Triple digit heat. Got hideously sunburned, swam like a fish, ate like a horse, slept like a rock. Solid times.

Desert Redux

We're headed back to the desert this weekend. No big plans. Mostly to chill out by the pool and hot tub at the quaint little hotel that's been chosen for home base. The weather should be perfect for an early afternoon bike ride or maybe a trip out to the Salton Sea to see what's going on out there (early money is on: nothing).

I love it out there. If I were allowed to telecommute for work, perhaps come in the office once a week for meetings and marching orders, I'd move down there in a heartbeat. The air is clean, the view is vast and the nights are gorgeous. Perhaps someday.

Vacation

Time for a little weekend trip down to the desert. Borrego Springs, to be exact. Warm weather, hot tub, pool and a bike ride to check out the sculptures at Galleta Meadows. Expect much in the way of photos soon.

Life In General

One of the big ideas flying around the internet right now is "Getting Things Done". Sheeple have created a culture around this with applications, web apps, terminal apps, special notebooks, etc.

Who, in their right mind, wants to live a life where you have so much shit to do, so many promises you've made and such an agenda, that if you don't have it listed you might not get it all done?

I must have missed that prerequisite. I just go to work and do the best I can. I don't need a list to remind me of what I need to do. I don't think Mondays are a great day to "reboot ideas" and once the 5pm work whistle blows, I get back to what's really important...

RPM Challenge

This year I participated in the RPM Challenge. This was a challenge to write, compose and release an album in the month of February, 2009. Utilizing what little knowledge of electronic music software I had, I slapped together about 55 minutes of nonsensical, warped soundscapes. I used the name of the band I was in many moons ago, Liquid Diet, as the name on the release and probably will if I choose to participate again or release anything else.

There's a couple places you can listen to the tracks, if you so wish to:

You can stream the tracks at the RPM site, though the official site offers slightly higher quality downloads. If you want, I'll send you an official CD through the mail. Just contact me (figure it out, there's several ways to).

It was fun and has spurned, perhaps, a new hobby for me.

Character Encoding

You'll notice in another post that there's some weird character encoding issue. Trust when I say that I know not to use a ? in place of an apostrophe. Nonetheless, I figure it's probably a setting somewhere in MagpieRSS, but I don't feel like working on it today.

Using this fine day to clean out the office and recycle a bunch of old computers. There was a time when I could have swore I needed all of these, but now they just take up space. Plucking out the hd's and away they go.

House Hunting

I've been miraculously approved for a home loan. Very surprising since I have that whole IRS thing I've been dealing with for years now. Nonetheless, the remainder of my credit was stellar enough to get pre-approved for way more than I wish to spend.

Time to get out there and find me a house. Exciting times, to say the least.

New Layout

This is the new layout. Nothing fancy, but it’s all in one spot. There’s no longer a site-wide RSS feed, but you can subscribe to any of the feeds individually. There’s an icon you can click on if you don’t know what you’re doing. As well, you can click on the feed title and be taken to the page proper.

Everything should work fine, though there’s a few more things I wish to add and those will come eventually. If something is broke, feel free to contact me.
